Red Star White Eagle - trial run

This is a remake of a game from 1979 covering the war in eastern Europe between the Poles and the Soviets.  While a classic move/combat turn sequence with attack/defence/movement factors for each unit, the stacking is unique (up to three division/brigade equivalents and up to three lesser sized formations) however the special thing is the absence of ZoCs.  Instead of ZoCs each unit has a delay factor which is added to the movement cost when moving next to it.  This creates a very fluid front as befits my understanding of the battles.

Richard had to go Poles while I was happy to go Soviets.  We just played half the introductory scenario to get a handle on the system (the combat system had a straightforward D6 combat ratio, but the outcomes were fairly varied).  More tricky was to know exactly what to do in terms of game play.

Blah!  Having trouble with Google again orientating the images not to my liking.
Fixed via HTML coding, but now can't resize.

From memory we played about four or five turns.  Looking forward to fully playing the game.

  1. This one looks like an especially interesting topic. About a zillion years ago I read a very good book on that war. It would have made a very fine War games topic - vast, almost empty theatre.

    1. Yes, very interesting bit of history. And as for wargaming, lots of cavalry and funny armoured cars etc.
