Richard and I played this game on Tuesday. Brand new to both of us it was tricky to know what strategy to follow. While a game system we knew, it is different to the GMT WW2 system we had been playing most recently and this produced a few double takes.
The differences in this game system is if you are going to attack, all adjacent enemy units must be attacked. Retreating due to combat is no big deal and there are no ZOC bonds.
Richard was Vichy while I went Commonwealth. The aim of the 11 turn scenario we played was to capture either Beirut or Damascus.
The initial positions.
The final positions.
I had attempted to drive up the coastal road with the help of some commando raids,
but that proved abortive.
The drive up the central valley (the Beqaa Valley, or start there of)
ended up being a slow process of out flanking maneuvers.
However the drive on Damascus was much more successful.
Damascus falls after a lucky roll on the last turn,
helped by the arrival of the RAF and a massed artillery bombardment.
An excellent game and it will be interesting to play the campaign version.
