Athenians versus 100 Years War English

My Athenians turned up expecting to expecting to fight Persians only to the find themselves facing something entirely different in what almost became a 100 turn game.

Out scouted the Athenians deployed near a lake with a patch of broken ground.
They were surprised to find a wood had sprung up in front of them

And it's a step to the right

While all that dancing has been going on,
there has been a bit of skirmishing in the centre.

One body of hoplites go boldly to face the knights that have trotted round.
On the left the Athenians are starting to explore the wood.

The Athenian slingers are working hard to screen the main body.
While on the right the Athenian general is busy reorganising his flank.

There is a bit of a contest in the wood,
but the first charge by the knights on the right
was bloodily repulsed.

A charge by the Athenians on the left came up short.
The right is being consolidated.

The fight for the wood is now on.
The centre is advancing.
The right is engaged.

The fight for the wood did not go so well.
The English archers also roughly handled the centre of the line,
but on the right, the knights are suffering badly.

The left and centre reorganise
as the right flank eliminates the knights.

A second assault by the Athenian centre does not go well.
The victorious right wing starts to return.

The Athenians hold the wood
and while the centre is a bit sparse,
help is on the way.

But at this stage time had run out.
A draw!
After a massive 17 turns.
