Don't Mention The War - Part 12

With the Luftwaffe and the Regia Aeronautica having failed to achieve air superiority over the Eastern Mediterranean, Imperial Britain, along with its hodge podge of enslaved races, was able to invade Greece and stop its peaceful participation in the European Community.

New recruits for the Luftwaffe being inspected.

Worse, the Imperialist persuaded Yugoslavia to declare war on Germany and Italy.  They seized their chance to grab Trieste thinking that would be the end of it, but no such luck.  Like a ton of bricks the forces of Free Europe descended on Zagreb, Belgrade was surrounded and Prince Paul was nabbed as he snuck out the back with the country's gold reserves.  He is currently waiting an audience with the Fuhrer who will no doubt point out the error of his ways.

Prince Paul not looking too happy and perhaps a tad nervous

Needless to say this is all very annoying, but at least it didn't threaten the peace with USSR.  If there had been a war it would have been a tad embarrassing. As it is, the Greek situation has all the hallmarks of a grand fiasco.  Not only did the declaration of war give the US two entry chits, the support lent by the Commonwealth gave them another one.  At least the US was alarmed enough to lose a chit when Yugoslavia entered the war.

Speaking of war, the USSR continues to send forces east to confront the Japanese. They arrived to late to stop the fall of another city which has freed up Japan to look at other options.  However a partisan uprising stopped some of the newly acquired resources getting through to Japanese factories.

Author's Note

Humour and fanciful writing aside, the Wikipedia entry on Prince Paul of Yugoslavia makes for interesting reading.
