Operation Splendour - This time with hexes

At the club's games day I umpired this game for Mark Woods (Axis) and Michael (Commonwealth).  It was Michael's first go with Rommel and by the end of the game he gave good impression of having mastered the rules, leading Commonwealth to victory.

In hexes the map looks like this:

The 6th New Zealand Brigade has repulsed the initial attack on their position (E7) by the 15th Panzer.

The 161st Indian Motor Brigade was also able to knock back the initial attack by the 21st Panzer (E1).

Counterattack by the New Zealanders (E10).

Main attack by the 23rd Armoured Brigade,
The focus is on retaking the objective originally held by the New Zealanders (E7).
This was ultimately successful.

21st Panzer make one last desperate attempt to shift the 161st Indian Motor Brigade off the ridge line.  They fail.

From the game I have three rules questions to follow up.

1. Does the use of Recce also alter the application of tactics in addition to strength calculation?

2. Can tipped units use Withdraw?

3. Are there an restrictions on the direction a Withdraw must take?

They have been posted to the FaceBook Sam Mustafa Publishing Group page https://www.facebook.com/groups/336901933776882/

I'd forgotten I'd asked these questions and getting back into Facebook, which I have become increasingly disenchanted with as a platform, took some scrolling and searching to find my post,  Anywhere, there it is.

Scary thing is this was half a year ago!

  1. Great work by the allied forces.
I think this scenario is quite hard for the allies as their late reinforcements are not that good.

    1. With both players being inexperienced, I think the defensive posture of the Commonwealth, after their initial move played well to not knowing the game. That said, by the end Michael seemed to have everything under control.

I have read a bit more about this battle and the scenario matches it quiet well.
