Back in the saddle

Well, if you knew the trouble my driver  had in staying in the chariot, you would appreciate his desire for a saddle.  But he was happy to take part in Dave's Famous Chariot Race at the club.

Starting from the inside, we have the Man from Gaul; with the white horses we have the Master of Ceremonies (who already is having trouble standing up in his chariot); Golden Brown (that's me); the Man from the Islands with the red crest; the President's favourite in the light blue robe, unfortunately facing the wrong way; and on the outer track a studious chap who says he comes from the East.

There was one late start.

Rounding the bend on the first lap.  I'm out in front,  Late Starter is running last.  Seems fair to me.
Second lap and the Master of Ceremonies has taken a tumble.  I narrowly miss running him over.
It's a tight pack although the President's favourite seems to be missing.
The third lap and we have lost two chariots.  Both the President's Favourite and the Master of Ceremonies took fatal falls.  It can easily happen and as you can see Golden Brown is looking at bit wobbly.

And it's a massive win to the Late Starter!

Chariot Race

Last night at the club Dave hoisted a chariot race.  Could I repeat my previous win?  Eh no...

I'm in the red chariot, red to "go faster " or that's what the used chariot sales person said.
Ha!  What a waste of denarii!

Then I got whipped by a fellow racer and lost my whip,
but luckily I had a whipping boy to give me an extra whip.

Coming up to the last circuit.
The field is still open.

The Finish.

Off to the races

Last night I had the good fortune to participate in one of Dave's famous chariot races using his new rules with no dice as movement is determined by value of cards drawn from a standard playing deck.  And I do mean good fortune.

We're off!

I'm in the lead,
but the field is tight.

About to turn into the final straight.
That's me at the top,
all those in front haven't even completed their second circuit!

The winner!

One Chariot A Race Does Not Make or This Is Not Ben Hur

I've always wanted to make the Airfix Romans' chariot and finally I have done so.

I had some grand ideas (white horses, reins and whip)

I ended up with simple black horses, but did try for an interesting design on the chariot
using a picture of the Gorgon's head I found and had fun resizing.

The one innovative thing I did was to give the chariot a metal floor and mount the driver on a piece of magnetic sheet.

It's had a good coat of Plasti-Dip and is now ready for racing.
