Projects for FY2324

Ever optimistic, but here goes, starting with gaming projects (most of which are well advanced, certainly over the 80% completion stage):

  • Marengo 15mm Napoleon's Battles
  • Alexandros Campaign for Basic Impetus
  • Crete (at least a scenario for Rhethymnon - city of many spellings) using Rommel
  • At least one Rommel game using my Australians, but preferably adapt scenario for Milne Bay
  • Stolberg Corridor mini campaign using Rommel
  • Basic Impetus League participation (still have 4 games to complete)

Then we have painting projects, sometimes related to the above gaming projects, but often not:

These two images are from the new PSC Mortem et Gloriam Hunnic Cavalry range,
that in their raw state didn't look too appealing and were being thrown out.
I mistakenly thought they were Romans and grab them.
But now I have enough to do all the light cavalry elements for a Basic Impetus Hun army.
Better still all painted and just need basing.

These have been seen before but the guy with the big stick is new.
Another rescued figure.
Just waiting for a varnish.

Cavalry casualty markers for Napoleon's Battles.
Just waiting for a varnish.

Limbers - some old, some expanded and one new,
enhanced do to adding in rescued figures.
Just waiting on a varnish.

Well, at least they are assembled and undercoated

Just waiting a a decision about a camouflage system

For the Stolberg Corridor campaign.

Started as medium mortars until I found I had some heavy mortars.

The last (maybe) infantry of the weighty Soviet purchase

Odds and sods of Romans

Dacian camp that came with a purchase.
I've been mucking about with the trees.
Sadly Basic Impetus doesn't need camps :-(

More Romans and there are still more Romans I haven't photographed.
From having no Romans a year or two back I now have a super embarrassment.

Generals for my Swedish army.
Uniform details are a bit of a challenge as I am also using a mix of figures.
I think I am stuck deciding on which blue to use.

British casualty markers,
but I am now having second thoughts
about the best approach to reflecting casualties in Napoleon's Battles.

Some fantasy figures

More WW2 kit and random fantasy figures

Still more fantasy figures which reminds me I have a HotT dinosaur army to finish
and some zombies as well as a whole lot of John Carter Warlord of Mars things.

And there are still many, many more figures to sort and paint and base and get into action.

But for now I am off on holidays, back in August.

Arriverderci!

Ten Years After

While the name of a band (with reference to Elvis Presley having been dead or flipping burgers for ten years), which I was erroneously calling Ten Years Gone (which is a song by Led Zeppelin) who had a song I particularly like One of These Days (which I used to think was called Coming Down the Road or Red Dress), not to be confused with These Days by Joy Division or a similarly named song by Powder Finger, the title of this post is actually celebrating that I've been a blogger for ten years.  A decade (now there is a great Joy Division song Decades).

My first post was a naif intro in December 2010.  Serious blogging started in January 2011.

It's nice to see that my first post referenced Perth's great wargamming shop Tactics.

Most of the posts are about figures that were broken in my move to Perth.

With one exception they are all 1/72nd (or thereabouts) scale.

The only post that has a unit that is still employed is the one on IR 43 Graf Thum which was created using 15mm Essex figures and is part of my Napoleonic Austrian army that I am still actively building.

The Airfix Ancient Britons are still live I guess (recalling that I planned to use them against some 25mm figures Mark B has recently become reacquainted with).  But this would be Basic Impetus not DBA.

More general observations:

I averaged one post a week until I retired when I hit an average of two posts per week.

2017 was my busiest year which I attribute to playing War Between the States (both face to face and solo on Vassal).

Most used labels are Boardgames (400), Ancients (285), WW2 (414) and Napoleonic (324).

The only other labels to break the ton are Napoleon's Battles (158) and GMT (141), not surprising given the popularity of the Boardgames and Napoleonic labels.

I have made 1439 posts.

There have been 393577 views, but I attribute them to mainly Russian bots, although Google is telling me now that the bulk of my traffic is from Sweden. Zero traffic from China.

No idea of most popular post as Google doesn't seem to provide that info any more :-(

Year in Review

Napoleon’s Battles got a welcome work out with recreating the Battle of Auerstadt, and a couple of goes at Scenario One and a game using Scharnhorst to set up an interesting encounter.  I also agonised over markers, labels etc for use with this rule set (and others).

Computer games were Hearts of Iron IV playing France which I blogged, and later playing Romania which I didn’t blog along with Europa Universalis (France again) and my crushing addiction Everquest (where my long suffering wizard went from level 100 to Level 106 and rising). I don’t/didn’t blog these.

Boardgames were a dominant feature and included Holland’44, Ardennes’44, Fortress Europa, The African Campaign and amazingly World in Flames.  This included some play throughs using Vassal.  Oh, and I can’t forget Amoeba Wars.

There were only a few fantasy games using Songs of Blades and Heroes.  A few Wings of Glory Games.

Rommel was a big focus and saw an evolution to using hexes as well as more figures and kit added to my 15mm WW2 armies.

Probably the main miniatures game I played was Impetus in its various guises and my Byzantine Army handled itself well.  It received numerous reinforcements and even a trophy: a highlight of the year which I modestly didn’t blog was winning my club’s Ancients and Medieval League trophy.  Yeah me!

In reviewing 2019 I see I got a substantial indexing of my Military Modelling magazines completed. I fear with the wealth of information on the Internet these old magazines are a bit redundant (and space occupiers), however they can’t be beat for nostalgia.

Comments

Since my return to blogging after my four week holiday I had been a bit saddened to see that comments on my posts had dropped off a bit, well, a lot really.  Zilch.

I recall James of the ANF blog had said Goggle had changed something...

Wait a minute, what's this tab: "Awaiting Moderation"?

Oh dear...

My deepest apologies to those who had commented, only to see their words of wisdom disappear.  Never fear, they will be appearing soon.

Comment Moderation

Sadly the spate of gold casino spam comments to my blog, and to other blogs that I follow, has forced me to implement comment moderation.
