Mark B fielded some new troops as part of his Sassanid army. Let's see how the army fared this time against my Byzantines.
Deployment.
Thankfully after this photo I realised I had my camera on the wrong settings.
The Byzantine light cavalry have aggressively struck the Sassanid left flank,
while Byzantine skirmishers, armed with deadly slings, are moving on their right.
The light cavalry has continued its aggression,
even engaging the Sassanid cavalry.
In the above picture, the beautiful Dalimi retreated through the elephants, but couldn't clear them.
This meant the elephants moved forward to give them room.
What would have happened if that had brought them into contact with the Byzantine foot?
Yes, that is Byzantine light cavalry bottom left hand corner...
The Byzantine general with his cavalry is having trouble shifting some Sassanid skirmishers.
Note that the Byzantine light cavalry have returned...
It had been a grueling fight,
but the Byzantines have prevailed.
Their light cavalry conducted a well executed rear charge clearing up the Sassanid left flank.
The Byzantine general also overcame the enemy skirmishers and their supporting cavalry.
Enemy elephants had been sent packing,
or should that be pachyderming?
A gruelling fight indeed.

:-)
DeleteCouldn't quite tell from the pictures who has won - seems it was one of them there 'near run things.'
ReplyDeleteThose Byzantines don't lose very often, do they?
Cheers,
Ion
It was a near run thing, but in that last photo there are 6 Byzantine units and only 3 Sassanid. Two of the Byzantine units are large and so there are really 8 Byzantine units.
DeleteThey're a good army and I have been lucky with them.
