Stalingrad'42 - Turns 14 to 16

The campaign continues...

A Soviet attack in the north trying to relieve Balashov.

And in the south trying to contain the Axis breakout across the Don.

The northern front is hanging on.

The Axis are approaching Stalingrad from the south.

The fighting at Rostov is fierce.

 More attacks in the north.
There is a breakout on the way from Balashov.

The Soviets are still trying to contain the southern Axis penetration across the Don.

The Soviet's have lost their grip on Balashov.

Rostov is still holding out, but the Axis are getting closer to Stalingrad.

The last Soviet attack for this session.
And what a beauty it was!

The big picture at the end of Turn 16.
Balashov is still holding out in the north, but the Soviets have pulled back.
The Volga north of Stalingrad has been secured.
However the Axis are getting close to the southern end of Stalingrad.
Rostov is still being fought over,
but has that pocket further along the Don been contained?

The Axis success north of the Don has perhaps been at the expense of their lack of success south of the Don.  The Axis have been unlucky in their attempts to take Voronezh (two 3:1 attacks to cut off the city both failed - a one in six chance).  The Soviets are strong in the north as this is where the bulk of their reinforcements arrive and they have a significant table edge advantage (that I haven't really started to exploit yet).
