On the third attempt the Byzantines prevailed. Importantly, this was a competition game.
The Egyptians won the scouting and placed themselves at top a hill.
The Byzantines chose some open ground between a small lake and a wood,
deploying as two discreet wings.
The Byzantines stayed put, but the Egyptians advanced.
The Egyptians pause as the Byzantines make their move.
The Egyptian charioteers prove better shots than the Byzantine mounted archers.
The Byzantine skirmishers boldly block the main Egyptian force,
which is still clinging to that hill.
The Byzantine cavalry prove to be better fighters,
but they are now a spent force.
Sensing victory the Egyptian foot advance.
Now it gets exciting.
The Byzantine cavalry has finished off the chariots,
but is busy keeping out of the way.
Go the Varangians!
Single handedly the Varangians clean up the Egyptian infantry.
A bloody victory, but a convincing victory!
