GDW - World War Three - Game Turn Three

The war enters its third week...

The Norwegian Front.  Narvik is under intense attack.

The North German plain.
Holland is demoralised and Belgium shaken.
NATO is desperately trying to hold the Ruhr cities.

Central Germany.
The Warsaw Pact forces are across the Rhine.
Only newly arrived Spanish troops block their way to France.
Understandably France is shaken.

Austria entered the war, but was immediately invaded.
The Italians are now moving up.

The Soviet invasion of Austria brought Yugoslavia into the war on NATO's side.
But the Reds were ready ...

After a prolonged battle, the Warsaw Pact has captured Istanbul.

In the eastern half of Turkey things are moving slowly,
but Turkey is being crushed.

Down in Iran the US have invested Esfahan.

About now I think the US President would be unlocking the briefcase containing the launch codes.

  1. Tense situation for NATO. I would likely look for the "football" too and hope not to fumble.

    1. It is amazing playing this game with the hindsight we have from the past 20 years. Perhaps the extended "peace" of the Cold War was what caused the collapse of the Soviet system to be so quick when it occurred. I shudder to think of our present times.

    1. My set up might have been bad as I didn't know what I was facing. Defending the border just seemed a waste. That said, the forces arranged against Turkey are pretty formidable.

  3. What is the only provocation that could bring about the use of nuclear weapons? Nuclear weapons. What is the priority target for nuclear weapons? Nuclear weapons. What is the only established defense against nuclear weapons? Nuclear weapons. How do we prevent the use of nuclear weapons? By threatening the use of nuclear weapons. And we can't get rid of nuclear weapons, because of nuclear weapons. The intransigence, it seems, is a function of the weapons themselves.

Don't let anyone tell you that nuclear weapons have not been used since 1945. They have been used every single day since 1945. Otherwise you might as well say that the armed robber didn't use his gun if he emerged from the bank, with the loot, and the gun unfired.

  4. Is NATO losing because "someone" lost the south during the civil war? :)
Great AARs. Thanks for taking the time to prepare these.

  5. Thanks. Doing the AARs helps to relive and record the game and they are generally fun to do.

Both WBTS and WW3 are games that I have not played before, against opponents that have (although at varying times in the past).

But as they say, the South will rise again!
