2nd Punic War Carthaginians versus Nikephorian Byzantines

Simon borrowed my Byzantines to see how he'd fare against my Carthaginians.  Poorly.

Deployment.
As the Carthaginians were out scouted,
I decided to be cautious and set up well back from the start line.

But we immediately advanced.

There was some shuffling by both sides.
The Carthaginians to their left and the Byzantines to their left as well.

The first blows fell on the Carthaginian right flank.

Carthaginian confidence in their fighting prowess was not forthcoming.

The Carthaginian right flank has collapsed.
The Carthaginian general has lead his veteran cavalry
into battle to try to starve off defeat.
On the left the Libyan skirmishers have engaged their opponents in close combat
(the only way skirmishers can effectively deal with enemy skirmishers).

In a wonderful turnaround, the Carthaginian cavalry defeats it opponents.
Inspired, the Gauls charge home,
ably supported by the Libyan infantry protecting their flanks.

The Carthaginians power on to victory!
