Germany forced the remilitarisation of the Rhineland, the Anschluss of Austria, the ceding of the Sudetenland, the end of Czechoslovakia, and the annexation of Memel. Following Germany’s invasion of Poland, Britain and France both declared war on Germany. As Commonwealth dominions, both Australia and New Zealand are at war with Germany too. Germany steamrolled through Poland, the Netherlands and Belgium, so Italy decided to enter the war too as Germany’s ally.
Suddenly, the preparation of industries and armed forces in Australia and New Zealand looks wise – almost as though they knew what would happen. Australia has 30 factories and 6 dockyards while New Zealand has 21 factories. Australia has 9 fully equipped divisions (1 motorised) and 30 warships (2 heavy cruisers, 4 light cruisers, 11 destroyers and 13 submarines) while New Zealand has 7 fully equipped divisions (2 armoured and 1 motorised).
They have decided to fight first in Italian East Africa. New Zealand is poised on the southern border of British Somaliland ready to strike south while the Australians are heading to Kenya to fight north east up the coast of Somalia. Hopefully, they will meet in or nearby Mogadishu.
Things are heating up.
