Barbarossa - Vassal - Madness - Turn 3

The last turn of wide spread automatic interdiction by the Luftwaffe.  Soviet reaction will now speed up.

AGN clearing the road to Riga.

AGN clears Kaunas
while AGC clears the way to Vilnius.

AGC mopping up ready to continue the drive to Minsk.

AGN has far to go

For AGC the approach to Minsk is dictated by the only two roads available.
Only the southern one actually connects.

  1. The game certainly gives the depth of the campaign. At this scale the importance of the roads and rail nets become obvious and how this channels the advance. Something not so clear in the larger scale games which assume you can move and attack every which way.

    1. Most definitely. You do have a bit of independence, but you need to take supplies with you and they won't last forever. But on the reverse side all the key locations are generally associated with key road and rail hubs (as you'd expect). Wide outflanking sweeps would be a challenge without supplies and the number of supply trucks and wagons is limited. Maybe not in the Vassal game, but the face to face one will hopefully get to Operation Typhoon and we will see if we can get to Moscow (and Rostov down south). Leningrad is an easier prospect to reach (the Baltic rail-net is quicker to convert), but once there it looks a tough nut to crack.
