In this post and the previous one I have not included my Germans and Russians that are based for Crossfire for use with the Stalingrad scenario.
Some of the wheeled vehicles are repurposed Matchbox diecast models.
The basing of the Zvedza AA and AT guns represents my new(ish) big basing style.
What follows are my notes from a long time ago when I was building this force and how I was structuring it to cover all variations. It is interesting that with two infantry stands of two figures per company that would match one of my 15mm infantry basings and is close to my Crossfire basing.

What I'm looking at in the pictures looks not all that dissimilar to my Mechanised Brigade. The KVs could be an understrength independent battalion (regiment?), each model representing a company (they look like Fujimi kits - which I disliked to begin with but eventually became rather fond of them - especially the KV2). I'm fairly sure the Airfix mortars were supposed to be 120mm, but I use mine as 82mm. I may have to rethink that.
ReplyDeleteIt looks as though you have done your PTRS/PTRS AT rifles the same way I did some of mine - replace the rifle of a prone riflemen, and add a bipod. Quick, easy and effective conversion, I think. I always thought highly of the Airfix Maksim MG and crew - especially the gunner. Pity they didn't treat the British Vickers gunner the same way.
The stats look to be from CD1 - which is the version I have. I notice that you don't include that stats for the 76L35 (T34/1940, KV1/40) or 76L39 (the following 76.2mm gun T34s and KV1s) nor the 152L23 carried by the KV2. If you dont have them already, here they are:

Thanks. I've found my Command Decision rule box. Currently looking at the Stolberg Corridor campaign that is included and how to convert it to Rommel. Should be very straight forward.
DeleteI wish to heck I could find my copy of the Stolberg corridor booklet. Somehow it got separated from the rest of my CD box, and vanished. :-( I still have the Barbarossa 25 and the Bastogne booklets though...
DeleteHow do you find the Rommel rule set?
I will scan my copy of Stolberg and send it to you. I also have Barbarossa and Bastogne.
DeleteI have played a number of historical scenarios using Rommel and enjoyed them all as it made me feel like a divisional or corps level general and not a rules book or table look up dilettante. Use the Rommel label to see my AAR post of Rommel games.
The rules are simply, readily use existing kit/figures. Needs labels or a roster or some other type record system (could use chits to keep track of steps left in the base model). Also needs a square mat although hexes are best.
Can be a bit of a slog, but that is part of the decision process - keep on basing away or try and do something different. I am really keen to use them for a campaign and have a few ideas in the works (Tunisia, Crete and now Stolberg Corridor). My friend Simon is working on a Japanese island scenario.
The rules, while simple, are very adaptable.
While they are different to your normal WW2 rules, not much effort is required to learn them and after two or three games you will have mastered them and can enjoy the game.
