This time my Romans took on the role of Marius' mules and faced Brendan's Romans who had not been in a Basic Impetus game for a long time (they had been off playing Mortem et Glorium). The green labels evident in the images are clever aide memoires used by Brendan.
The Marians were out scouted.
The Imperials hid in a wood and behind a hill.
The Imperial slingers score the first hit
as the Marians advance
This quickly became the battle of the sixes.
In six dice rolls the Imperials threw five sixes.
Luckily one was for a Cohesion test and that saw their Light Cavalry flee the field
The Marians peel off a unit to deal with the slingers.
A bloody fight has happened between the opposing medium cavalry
The Imperial heavy cavalry go in for the kill,
but find they are out of sixes.
However the Imperial legionaries have a supply
as do the Marian Thracians who stick it to the Imperials coming out of the wood.
Despite being shot up the Marian legionaries prevail in the fight for the hill.
The slingers are leading a merry chase
and the Imperial heavy cavalry is performing woefully.
Between the two it is a battle of the javelins
The climax of the battle.
The Imperials are on their last legs
but might still come up with some more sixes
The Imperial Auxlia are in real trouble
A win for the Marians!
