War For The Union Via Vassal January 1862

In the Far West Sigel keeps reorganising his troops.  It is slow work with hungry men.

Curtis withdraws to Columbus.  Grant takes reinforcements to Columbus as Thomas takes the Army of the Tennessee to Belmont assisted by Foote and a squadron of those new fangled ironclads. There are now 75,000 defenders of the Union massed at Columbus.

Buell and Halleck spread out along the banks of the Cumberland and squabble over who should take command of the Army of the Ohio.

The problems of army command exist with the Army of the Potomac which sits idle in Washington along with 90,000 men.  There are now 35,000 men at Winchester.

In a more interesting development, 10,000 Union troops land in Jacksonville, FA.  They are unopposed.

15,000 troops are staged at Key West and Farragut takes his two squadrons and sails to Pensacola.  There have been reports of Confederate naval activity (actually just garrisoning of Ft Morgan).

Well if the Union were having trouble knowing what to do, the Confederates have it double.

S D Lee starts building his army at Little Rock.

Bragg with the Army of the Mississippi joins A S Johnston, they can muster only 45,000 men.  Polk digs in at Nashville.

Van Dorn goes to Knoxville ready to contest the Cumberland Gap.

Magruder is sent with 15,000 to recover Jacksonville.

J E Johnston holds tight while Beauregard sweeps up the Shenandoah Valley and attacks the Union at Mount Jackson.  It is 2:1 with a +1.  The die roll is a 4.  While both take fatigue, the Union lose 5,000 men.  A linking force has been deployed from Richmond to keep the line of communications open between the two main Confederate forces.
