Nikephorian Byzantines versus 2nd Punic War Carthaginians

This time Simon tried his luck with my Carthaginians against my Byzantines.

The Byzantines had the advantage with deployment.

A flaw in the Byzantine Order of Battle was corrected
(they had an extra skirmisher unit)

Turn 2 has seen missile fire on both wings,
but largely ineffective.

Turn 3 however sees the Byzantines triumphant on both wings.

Turn 4 and the Byzantines have been able to reduce the Carthaginian skirmish screen.

Turn 5 and both armies are fully engaged.

Turn 6 and the Carthaginian Gauls have gone straight through the Byzantine legions,
like a hot knife through liquid butter.
However the Libyan spearmen have not been so successful.
Worse the Carthaginian cavalry has been routed by the Byzantine cavalry.

Turn 7 and the Carthaginian army has been largely wiped out...

  1. Gee, the 'one time' that the Gauls are successful and they are let down by the cavalry!

    1. The Byzantine cavalry is superior to the Carthaginian. I am building an Arab Conquest army which will be a better match for the Byzantines (and for Mark B's Sassanids).

A Roman army to match my Byzantines is some time off.
