Stalingrad'42 via Vassal - Turns 25 to 27

Rain falls during the last week of October.  It can only mean one thing, more mud.

The Axis attack to open up the way to the Crimea is top priority.

Although Stalingrad is getting plenty of attention.

The Soviets to are focussing on Stalingrad as well.

Significant reinforcements arrived on Turn 25 for the Soviets.
They have gone into one of the four hidden Reserve armies.
Even though I know the Soviet plan,
I'm being careful to keep it to myself.
:-)

The situation around and due south of Stalingrad.

The Black Sea coast.

The beginning of November starts off overcast.  As it rained in the previous turn, there is still mud.  Lingering, sticky, gooey mud!

The Axis keep up the pressure on Stalingrad.

But the real win is capturing Taman.

The Soviets attack the Rumanians to take a key road junction,
that cuts supply to an out flanking move.

The Soviets continue the attack north of Stalingrad.
All this achieves is mounting casualties for both sides.

That's a big front line.
I wonder where the Soviet reserves are lurking?

Then it rains... Turn 27

Again the Axis reinforce the Stalingrad front and continue the attacks.
Losses continue to mount for both sides.

The Soviets attack.
Both sides take losses.

The situation in the north just before winter freeze.
The big question is - will this front stay frozen?

The situation in the Steppes.
The Axis desperately need two VPs to avoid defeat.
They have to take the remaining Stalingrad hex or the two locations at Entry Area E.

The weather is kinder down south.
There are also numerous VPs to be obtained.
The Axis however have lost time as they need to redeploy
as the offensive to open up the Crimea has now completed.
