The Operation Market Garden continues.
Allied attacks during the night of the 18th September.
Clearing the highway was the critical fight and was very successful,
with the enemy being eliminated, not just retreated,
and the British paras found themselves pulling back.
But would the Allies be able to trap the Germans on the wrong side of the canal?
Another attack by the 82nd again fails to make any progress against Nijmegen,
but the bridges are down...
They fail.
If successful they would have interdicted the arrival of reinforcements.
11th Armoured starts to fight for Helmond.
While on the other flank the fight is closing in on 'sHertogenbosch.
But the critical thing is to get these bridges repaired.
There can be no real advance without them.
Again the Germans mount attacks on 1st Para.
Their previous failure has allowed reinforcements to land and shuffle in to the front lines.
These renewed attacks fail, but it's tight.
but there was an unknown unit that turned out to be tough.
It remains in German hands.
Next up is the German night turn.
I must say that the whole map board and playing pieces look very colourful and attractive, but take a fair bit of getting the hang of. It seems, too, that the Allies have most of the fun, even though victory is not easy to achieve.
ReplyDeleteYou've got me thinking. Most if not all the GMY 'nn games are basically and attack by one side with careful manoeuvering and limited counterattacks by the other. Ardennes and Stalingrad probably give the most counterattack possibilities. France and Normandy are much like Holland. The German has more fun in Holland as his losses don't really matter. All he needs to do is cause losses on the Allies to get VPs.
DeleteGetting across the Wall never mind the Rhine is going to be a problem for me.
